Hyderabad: Qualifier RMV Gurusaidutt stunned world No. 9 Pengyu Du of China to enter into the quarterfinals of the Hong Kong Open Super Series. Ajay Jayaram and Saina Nehwal made it a bright day for India by also making it to the last eight stage.
Saina outclassed Jie Yao of the Netherlands 21-17, 21-17 in women’s singles while Ajay made short work of Muhammad Hafiz Hashim of Malaysia 21-16, 21-15.
However, the mixed doubles team of Valiyaveetil Diju and Jwala Gutta failed to trouble second seeds Chen Xu and Xin Ma of China, losing 21-18, 21-16.
