{"id":8703,"date":"2012-07-25T11:48:15","date_gmt":"2012-07-25T11:48:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/indiansportsnews.co.in\/?p=8703"},"modified":"2012-07-25T11:48:15","modified_gmt":"2012-07-25T11:48:15","slug":"court-bars-kalmadi-from-attending-games-opening-ceremony","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/indiansportsnews.co.in\/?p=8703","title":{"rendered":"Court bars Kalmadi from attending Games opening ceremony"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>New Delhi:<\/strong> Delhi High Court has dealt a severe blow to Suresh Kalmadi\u2019s proposed visit to London Games opening ceremony and passed a judgment that he cannot leave the country till July 27th and nor can he attend the opening ceremony of the mega event.<\/p>\n<p>The court order says that he cannot attend any game in his official capacity however allowing him to attend a meeting in London of the International Association of Athletics Federations in his individual capacity as a member of the body. <\/p>\n<p>Kalmadi, former chairman of the CWG Organising committee spent over a year in prison due to Games related graft case. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You say you don&#8217;t represent India but you are going as a member of Asia Athletic Association which represents the whole of Asia and India is of course a part of it,&#8221; the court told Kalmadi. <\/p>\n<p>A copy of the court will be sent to the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), which will decide whether Kalmadi can attend its meetings or not.<\/p>\n<p>Kalmadi earlier was allowed by a special CBI court to go to London from July 26th to August 13th, but then a PIL filed by Rahul Mehra seeking the court`s direction to restrain Kalmadi from going to Games on the ground that he is facing trial in a corruption case and should not be allowed to represent the country in an international event.<\/p>\n<p><strong>By Indian Sports News Network<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New Delhi: Delhi High Court has dealt a severe blow to Suresh Kalmadi\u2019s proposed visit to London Games opening ceremony and passed a judgment that he cannot leave the country till July 27th and nor can he attend the opening ceremony of the mega event.
