{"id":8239,"date":"2012-07-06T12:48:55","date_gmt":"2012-07-06T12:48:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/indiansportsnews.co.in\/?p=8239"},"modified":"2012-07-06T12:48:55","modified_gmt":"2012-07-06T12:48:55","slug":"football-matches-can-now-have-five-referees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/indiansportsnews.co.in\/?p=8239","title":{"rendered":"Football matches can now have five referees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><p><strong>Geneva<\/strong>: Football matches could be officiated by five referees in the future after the International Football Association Board (IFAB) approved the method.<\/p>\n<p>IFAB, the sole body allowed to determine the laws of the game, decided Thursday that two officials can be added in addition to the referee and two linesmen, reported Xinhua.<\/p>\n<p>The newly added referees will stand behind each team&#8217;s goalline to keep an eye on action, in and around the penalty box area, should tournament organisers want it.<\/p>\n<p>IFAB comprises the Football Associations of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, with FIFA representing its other members.<\/p>\n<p>The English FA and their Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland counterparts each have a single vote, while FIFA &#8211; world football&#8217;s governing body &#8211; has four.<\/p>\n<p>Any law change needs at least six of the eight votes. <strong>(IANS)<\/strong><\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Geneva: Football matches could be officiated by five referees in the future after the International Football Association Board (IFAB) approved the method.
