Rio de Janeiro<\/strong>: Barcelona’s Brazilian international defender Daniel Alves has called on the Catalan club to end speculation surrounding his future.<\/p>\n

The 29-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester City and the Guus Hiddink-coached Russian club Anzhi Makachala, which last season secured Alves’ former Barcelona teammate Samuel Eto’o.<\/p>\n

Alves is unhappy the club has not reassured him he will remain at the Camp Nou next season, Xinhua reported.<\/p>\n

“The only thing that has annoyed me is that nobody from the club has come out and said that the reports about the transfer are incorrect,” Alves said.<\/p>\n

“That has left me in doubt as to whether they want me to stay or if they are going to wait and see what happens.”<\/p>\n

“In the same way that I would always be honest with the club, I would like them to tell me if they want me to continue or not,” he said.<\/p>\n

Alves has made 131 appearances for Barcelona since being signed from Spanish rivals Sevilla in 2008.<\/p>\n

He was one of the pillars of Pep Guardiola’s team that many rate the greatest ever, winning three La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey trophies and two Champions Leagues.<\/p>\n

“I’m very happy at Barcelona. I think the balance of what we have won in the last few years is very positive and I don’t want to leave now,” Alves said.<\/p>\n

“But if they think that for some reason my time is finished I will have to accept it and thank them for giving me the chance to be a part of this great club and one of the greatest teams in history.” (IANS)<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
