To overhaul domestic cricket in the wake of India\u2019s disastrous overseas outings over the last season, the Board of Control for Cricket in India\u2019s (BCCI\u2019s) technical committee is set to meet here on Tuesday, says a report in Hindustan Times. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The committee, headed by former India skipper Sourav Ganguly, is expected to discuss all the suggestions made by various quarters in domestic cricket over the last four months. The key points to be finalised will be the Ranji Trophy format and the domestic season fixtures. The existing Ranji format \u2014 teams are divided into two tiers of 15 and 12 each \u2014 is criticised by all and sundry. Even during the Ranji captains and coaches conclave on March 22, it was voiced that teams needed to play more first-class games. <\/p>\n

\u201cAs a result, don\u2019t be surprised if it\u2019s decided to split the two tiers into 18 and 9 teams each, or the premier domestic competition is split into three tiers of nine teams each. This would mean every team will be assured of getting at least eight games per season, since the top tier (Elite Group) is divided into two groups,\u201d says the report. <\/p>\n

Boxing Test will be back: <\/strong>Test cricket will return to its traditional slot between Christmas and New Year after fans protested about the scrapping of the fixture in 2012, Cricket South Africa (CSA) said on Thursday. \u201cWe\u2019ve clearly noted the concerns and it was heart-warming to see such a passion for Test cricket being expressed,\u201d CSA acting chief executive Jacques Faul said. \u201cWe\u2019re going to have to take Test cricket more seriously and I can see the Boxing Day Test definitely being played again soon,\u201d he said. The 2012 \u2018Boxing Day test\u2019 has been replaced by a T20 against New Zealand this year. <\/p>\n

Pak to invite Indian players to PPL: <\/strong>Although the Pakistan Premier League (PPL) looks like a distant possibility, with no fixed dates and plans being kept behind closed doors, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Zaka Ashraf has confirmed that an invite will be sent out to the Indian players for the event’s maiden edition. \u201cIt’s up to them whether they want to take part or not but the PCB will send out an invitation,\u201d Ashraf said. <\/p>\n

Philander named SA cricketer of the year: <\/strong>Fast bowler Vernon Philander was named South Africa\u2019s cricketer of the year on Wednesday following a sensational entry into Test cricket during the 2011-12 season.
