{"id":4676,"date":"2012-04-11T13:09:55","date_gmt":"2012-04-11T13:09:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/indiansportsnews.co.in\/?p=4676"},"modified":"2012-04-11T13:09:55","modified_gmt":"2012-04-11T13:09:55","slug":"junior-asia-cup-akashdeep-to-captain-indian-team","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/indiansportsnews.co.in\/?p=4676","title":{"rendered":"Akashdeep to lead junior Indian team in Asia Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"images\/junior-hockey.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Junior Asia Cup: Akashdeep to captain Indian team\" width=\"250\" style=\"float: left; margin: 6px;\" \/>New Delhi<\/strong>: Akashdeep Singh will be leading the 18-member Indian hockey squad for the 7th Junior Asia Cup at Malacca, Malaysia from May 3-13.<\/p>\n<p>Besides India and hosts Malaysia, the other participating teams are Bangladesh, China, Iran, Japan, South Korea, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. <\/p>\n<p>India won the last two editions of the championship at Karachi and Chennai in 2004 and 2008. This tournament will be the qualifier for the Junior World cup to be held in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Selection trials were conducted at SAI Centre, Bangalore, April 6-7 April by Hockey India (HI)selectors B.P. Govinda, Syed Ali and Balbir Singh, alongwith government observer Harbinder Singh.<\/p>\n<p>The squad:<\/p>\n<p>Goalkeepers: Sushant Tirkey, Keshav Dutt<\/p>\n<p>Defenders: Sukhmanjit Singh, Amit Rohidas (vice-captain), Sampath Kumar<\/p>\n<p>Midfielders: Pardeep Mor, Harjit Singh, Surender Kumar, Gurmail Singh, Prabhdeep Singh, Satbir Singh, Munish Rana<\/p>\n<p>Forwards; Mandeep Singh, Akashdeep Singh (captain), P.L.
