{"id":4230,"date":"2012-04-02T12:00:51","date_gmt":"2012-04-02T12:00:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/indiansportsnews.co.in\/?p=4230"},"modified":"2012-04-02T12:00:51","modified_gmt":"2012-04-02T12:00:51","slug":"star-group-bags-tv-rights-of-bcci-till-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/indiansportsnews.co.in\/?p=4230","title":{"rendered":"Star Group bags TV rights of BCCI till 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"images\/cricket\/bcci logo.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Star Group bags TV rights of BCCI till 2018\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" style=\"float: left; border: 1px solid black; margin: 6px;\" \/>Chennai:<\/strong> The Star Group led by Rupert Murdoch on Monday bagged the six-year broadcast and digital rights of the <a href=\"search.html?cx=partner-pub-2004395898380537%3A5221044443&amp;cof=FORID%3A10&amp;ie=UTF-8&amp;q=Board+of+Control+for+Cricket+in+India&amp;sa=Search\" title=\"http:\/\/www.indiansportsnews.com\/search.html?cx=partner-pub-2004395898380537%3A5221044443&amp;cof=FORID%3A10&amp;ie=UTF-8&amp;q=Board+of+Control+for+Cricket+in+India&amp;sa=Search\">Board of Control for Cricket in India<\/a> (BCCI) for all international and domestic matches at home.<\/p>\n<p>The Star Group beat Multi Screen Media (Sony), which owns the telecast rights of the Indian Premier League (IPL), to win the rights. <\/p>\n<p>The Star Group&#8217;s six-year contract is valued at Rs.3,851 crore ($750 million) and will cover 96 matches in all. <\/p>\n<p>They will pay Rs.40 crore ($7.86 million) for each international match, significantly more than &#8212; Rs.32.5 crore ($6.38 million) &#8212; what Nimbus paid. MSM was the second highest bidder offering Rs.3,700 crore.<\/p>\n<p>The rights were with Nimbus but it was scrapped last year after the broadcaster defaulted in payments. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The BCCI is very happy with the deal. Now the media rights have been fully evaluated and fully priced with Star coming out with a such a deal,&#8221; board president N.Srinivasan told reporters.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Following a transparent process of verifying the eligibility of each bidder, the winner was chosen,&#8221; Srinivasan said.<\/p>\n<p>Star, in association with ESPNCricinfo, bagged the broadcast, internet and mobile rights for India&#8217;s home matches from July 2012 till March 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Star Group&#8217;s India CEO Uday Shankar promised that the cricket matches at home will now get better coverage.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I thank the BCCI for awarding Star the broadcast rights. In association with ESPN, we are confident of giving a great coverage to Indian cricket. We already have the channels. If there is a need to open another channel, we can always explore it,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>ESPN-Star also own the telecast rights of all International Cricket Council (ICC) events and the rights of domestic cricket in England and Australia.<\/p>\n<p>The BCCI&#8217;s marketing committee had set the price for category of Rs.31.25 crore ($61.1 million) plus Rs.1 crore ($0.2 million) and Rs.34 crore ($6.67 million) plus Rs 1 crore for category B games.<strong>(IANS)<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chennai: The Star Group led by Rupert Murdoch on Monday bagged the six-year broadcast and digital rights of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for all international and domestic matches at home.
