Lucknow\u2019s Rajesh Kumar Rawat delivered a sublime final round of six-under-64 to snatch victory with an impressive five-shot margin at the PGTI Feeder Tour event staged at The Palms Golf Club & Resort, Sushant Golf City, Ansal API in Lucknow.<\/p>\n
The 44-year-old Rawat (64-69-64), who was two off the lead in second place at the start of the last round, totalled 13-under-197 at the season-ending event to secure his second career title.<\/p>\n
Victor Hans (70-66-66) of Jalandhar produced a second straight 66 to gain five spots and finish tied second. Noida\u2019s Dipankar Kaushal (62-69-71), the round two leader by two shots, also took a share of second at eight-under-202 as a result of his third round of 71.<\/p>\n
Delhi\u2019s Pawan Verma (68) claimed fifth place at six-under-204 at The Palms to emerge Feeder Tour Order of Merit champion at the sixth and last event of the season. Verma recorded the highest earnings for the season which stood at Rs. 2,78,987.<\/p>\n
Pawan, who posted four top-10s in the season including two runner-up finishes, has now earned an exemption for the 2019 PGTI season (Main Tour).<\/p>\n
Rajesh Kumar Rawat, who had earlier won on the Feeder Tour back in 2011, enjoyed a terrific start on day three as he sank three birdies on the first four holes with conversions from a range of six to 20 feet.<\/p>\n
Rawat carried on the good work in the middle stages of his round by adding three more birdies on the ninth, 12th<\/sup> and 14th<\/sup> that put him in the driver\u2019s seat even as his nearest rivals struggled to keep pace with him. Rajesh\u2019s tap-in birdie on the 14th<\/sup> was followed by four steady pars that saw him end up with the day\u2019s best score of 64.<\/p>\n The win lifted Rawat from 10th<\/sup> to fifth position in the Feeder Tour Order of Merit that in turn earned him a direct entry into the Final Stage of Qualifying for the 2019 PGTI season.<\/p>\n Rawat said, \u201cI brought all my experience into play today. I knew that a score of five to six under in the final round would be good enough for me to win.<\/p>\n \u201cI had an unbelievable start and then as soon as I got my fifth birdie on the 12th<\/sup>, I knew I was in control. I then decided to play regulation golf over the last six holes as it was evident that others would find it tough to catch up with me.<\/p>\n \u201cThe clear advantage I had was that my nearest rivals Dipankar Kaushal and Amardeep Rawat were not as experienced as me. They started well but I knew they will hit some stumbling blocks along the way and that\u2019s the reason I didn\u2019t look to do anything spectacular after the initial flourish.<\/p>\n \u201cMy ball-striking was excellent through the week and helped me post two rounds of 64. I made 16 greens in regulation in the final round which also contributed to my success.<\/p>\n \u201cI can now carry the confidence from this win onto the main tour. I would like to thank the Lucknow Golf Club for supporting me over all these years.\u201d<\/p>\n Victor Hans mixed six birdies with two bogeys during his last round of 66 that gave him his second top-10 finish of the season.<\/p>\n Dipankar Kaushal, the leader in the first two rounds, seemed to be coasting to his maiden title after he drained four birdies over the first six holes. However, Dipankar\u2019s six bogeys from the ninth to the 17th<\/sup> put paid to his title hopes.<\/p>\n Brothers Ajay Baisoya (seven-under-203) and Pawan Verma (six-under-204) finished fourth and fifth respectively.<\/p>\n Verma, even-par for the day till the 17th<\/sup>, signed off with a 40-feet eagle conversion on the par-5 18th<\/sup> before emerging as the Order of Merit champion.<\/p>\n Verma said, \u201cI was very consistent through the season and quite often in contention even though I didn\u2019t win this year. The Feeder Tour experience has once again instilled self-belief in me. I\u2019m confident of carrying the positives from here onto the main tour.\u201d<\/p>\n Kapurthala\u2019s Ashbeer Saini, who finished tied 22nd<\/sup> at even-par-210 at The Palms, secured second place on the Order of Merit with season\u2019s earnings of Rs. 2,46,624.
