London: Venus Williams defied age to set up a final clash with Garbi\u00f1e Muguruza for the 2017 Wimbledon title after she beat World No. 7 Johanna Konta 6-4, 6-2, here on Thursday. If Venus manages to win her sixth Venus Rosewater Dish, she can also ascent to No.1 on the Porsche Race to Singapore leaderboard.<\/p>\n
Konta fired seven aces in comparison to one by Williams, but she also served up four double faults \u2014 including one that cost her a crucial game early in the second set. Williams finally won the match 6-4, 6-2.<\/p>\n
“I had a lot of issues,” Williams said, adding, “This year’s been amazing, in terms of my play.\u201d<\/p>\n
Talking about her sister Serena who skipped this year’s Wimbledon due to pregnancy, after the match Venus said that she had also been thinking about her. “I miss her so much. And I tried to take the same courage on the court that she would’ve. I did think of that, and I tried to do the things she would do \u2014 I don’t know that I play exactly the same way she does, but I really tried to be inspired by it.”<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, No.14 seed Garbi\u00f1e Muguruza rolled past Magdalena Rybarikova, 6-1, 6-1, to reach her third career major final, and second at the All England Club.<\/p>\n
“I wasn’t expecting anything because you never know how it’s going to go,” Muguruza said after the match. “I saw her play before. I saw she was playing very good, very talented. I just expected myself to be ready as much as I could. Maybe the score did look easier than actually playing during the games.<\/p>\n
