\"mohunKolkata:Mohun Bagan<\/a> <\/strong>on Monday claimed to have appealed to the National Green Tribunal<\/a> <\/strong>(NGT) Eastern Zone against an appeal that has stopped Kolkata football giants from hosting its I-League<\/a><\/strong> home matches at the Rabindra Sarovar Stadium.<\/p>\n

Bagan, who were supposed to play their first game against Churchill Brothers<\/a><\/strong> at the stadium, were not permitted to do so by the NGT after a petition filed by environmental activist Subhash Dutta.<\/p>\n

Dutta, in his petition, said matches held under floodlights could cause disturbance to the nearby “eco-sensitive zone” which is protected under the National Plan for Conservation of Aquatic Ecosystems.<\/p>\n

“We have appealed to the NGT and our appeal has been accepted. We are trying to push our case,” a Bagan official told IANS.<\/p>\n

Mohun Bagan were forced to play their I-League opening match at the Barasat Stadium on Sunday, where they won 1-0 against Churchill Brothers.<\/p>\n

Fierce rivals East Bengal are also playing their home matches at the same venue.<\/p>\n

The Salt Lake Stadium, both clubs’ original venue, is undergoing renovation for the U-17 World Cup set to be hosted by India in October this year.<\/p>\n

When asked about the legitimacy of Bagan’s appeal, Dutta told IANS, “There is no provision of appealing. They will have to move the Supreme Court in that case.”<\/p>\n
