The tournament was organised by the Chandigarh Amateur Boxing Association under the aegis of the Indian Boxing Federation, held from March 7th to 20th, 2011.<br \/>\nThe Army Sports Institute team from Pune dominated finals winning the championships title in six of the 10 weight categories. ASI took home the winner\u2019s trophy with 6 gold medals, 1 silver and 1 bronze while Haryana claimed the second spot with I gold medal, 3 silver and 1 bronze while Army brought up the third spot with 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal.<\/p>\n<p>The defending champions struck gold, first in the bantam weight division with Kuldeep hammering Ajay Kumar of Haryana. The Haryana lad who put up a solid defence in the beginning eventually succumbed to the powerful hitting by the ASI boxer. Kuldeep secured the yellow metal with a convincing victory on points 16:10. The summit clash in the light weight division witnessed ASI pugilist K Roshan Singh beat Kulwinder of the Army team in an enthralling contest. Roshan who was in sublime form faced tough opposition from Kulwinder, but the 2011 Fed Cup silver medallist was up to the challenge. With the help of some accurate punching and nimble footwork he went on to claim his first gold medal with a 15:9 victory.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>Sumit of ASI and Mahmood Khan of Bihar engaged in a hard fought battle for the title in the light weight division. There was not much separating the two boxers, both fought with the same intensity and determination. But Sumit was able to steal a crucial two point lead which made all the difference. The ASI boxer won the bout 15:13. The title challenge in the middle weight class and Haripal pulverized his opponent, Naveen from Haryana, in completely one sided contest. The Haryana lad had not answer to the hard hitting jab and hooks of the Army boxer. Haripal registered a massive 14:5 win to help ASI bag its fourth gold medal of the day.<\/p>\n<p>ASI won the championship bouts in two of three heavy weight divisions as well courtesy some heavy duty boxing by Hari Singh and Shah Mugha Prabhu.
