Liverpool: English Premier League side Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on Monday lambasted the Neville brothers for their criticism of his goalkeeper Loris Karius saying they don’t know how to judge players.<\/p>\n
Karius was below par against Bournemouth and West Ham which saw Liverpool drop five points.<\/p>\n
“It’s a normal situation, criticism from outside. It’s normal for me, normal for my players, normal for the goalkeepers, we all wish it would be different but it is not like this,” Klopp was quoted as saying by Echo after Gary Neville was highly critical of his keeper.<\/p>\n
“I’m not surprised about it. In my very first press conference I spoke a little bit about English media.<\/p>\n
“Obviously you all enjoy it a little bit being this harsh — most of you, sorry!”<\/p>\n
Warming to his task, Klopp added: “The pundits are the former players a lot of them and forgot obviously completely how it felt when they got criticised.<\/p>\n
“Especially the Neville brothers who I have to say really, the one who was the manager (Gary) he obviously should know that too much criticism never helps — but he’s not interested in helping a Liverpool player I can imagine.<\/p>\n
“But that makes the things he says not more sensible. He showed that he struggled with the job to judge players. Why do we let them talk about players on television? I wouldn’t but the only thing I can do is I don’t listen to them.<\/p>\n
“I’m pretty sure Carra (former Liverpool defender and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher) doesn’t speak too positively about Man United players. So obviously the Neville brothers don’t like Liverpool but I’ve no problem. If they could cause bigger problems than they already have I think they try it.<\/p>\n
“Now you have your headline! Welcome! You should have asked the right question earlier. By the way, you can tell him I’m not on Twitter, so if he wants to tell me something, Twitter doesn’t help.”<\/p>\n
Former England defender Jamie Carragher also took a swipe at Karius saying, “This weak defending across the Premier League has been absolutely embarrassing.<\/p>\n
“My advice to Karius would be to shut up and do your job.<\/p>\n
“Karius’ confidence is all over the place, he does the hokey-cokey when he comes out for the second goal and then he freezes.”<\/p>\n
