\"FrancisNew Delhi: Former World Champion Francis Cheka, is stepping up his training ahead of the big title defense bout to be held on 17th December 2016 in India. He is leaving no stone unturned to win the WBO Asia Pacific Super Middleweight Championship Title, whose current holder is the Indian Boxing sensation Vijender Singh<\/a>.<\/p>\n

To defeat Indian knockout king Vijender Singh, this time around Francis Cheka has been put on a grilling training session that goes up to 40 rounds per day.<\/p>\n

The 34-year-old, Cheka is a No.1 Tanzanian professional boxer and the current Intercontinental Super Middleweight Champion. Cheka resides in Morogoro, Tanzania and has also won the African title and taken world title challengers such as Matthew Macklin and Paul Smith the distance. He is also a proven puncher with no fewer than 17 of his victories coming by knockout, out of the 43 bouts he has fought.<\/p>\n

Jay Msangi, trainer of the Tanzanian boxer says, “ I am making Cheka do some grilling training these days, even though he is way more experienced than Vijender, he needs to be prepared for anything that is thrown at him, it’s a matter of winning the title after all.”<\/p>\n

Francis Cheka commented on his training, “Jay has put me on some crazy training regime. It is increasing my strength and power day by day. Sure Vijender must have won all his professional bouts but lets not forget I have played 300 rounds and knocked down 17 of my opponents. Singh has no idea what he is going to face on the 17th of December. I am going to bring him down, like nobody’s business; I don’t think he thought before accepting my challenge. He has fought absolutely nobody up to now, I will show him what professional boxing means, I will hit him hard on his face that he will never think of professional boxing again.”<\/p>\n

Jay Msangi broke down Cheka’s entire workout regime for us.<\/p>\n

1-3 rounds- Shadow Boxing<\/p>\n

3-7 rounds- Hand Pads<\/p>\n

8-10 rounds- Body Pad<\/p>\n

11-14 rounds- Heavy Bag<\/p>\n

15-18 rounds- Hand Pads<\/p>\n

19-21 rounds- Body Pad<\/p>\n

22-23 rounds- Heavy Bag<\/p>\n

24-26 rounds- Hand Pads<\/p>\n

27-29 rounds- Speed Bag<\/p>\n

30-31 rounds- Jump Rope<\/p>\n

32 round- Weighted Jump Rope<\/p>\n

33-35 rounds- Weighted Shadow Boxing <\/p>\n

36-37 rounds- Abs<\/p>\n

38-39 rounds- Weighted Neck<\/p>\n

40 round- Finishing up<\/p>\n

After the grilling session of 39 rounds of various variations, in the 40th round Cheka finishes his routine with 3 sets of 50 push-ups.<\/p>\n

Only December 17, will tell us how much will Cheka’s grueling training pay off. He has been putting in massive hours to take down the Indian boxing champ Vijender Singh. Will Cheka take away the title from Vijender, that he won with so much pride in front of his home crowd, only time will be able to tell us that.<\/p>\n
