Mumbai: Chandigarh’s Karandeep Kochhar and Aadil Bedi played some superb golf to finish at first and second spots, respectively, in the IGU National Maharashtra Junior Golf Championship in A Category (15-17 year old), played at Bombay Presidency Golf Club (BPGC), here on Friday.<\/p>\n
Karandeep Singh Kochhar, a Class 12 of St John High school, carded 10-under-270 to win the championship, while Aadil Bedi, a Class 10 student of Vivek High School shot five-under-275 to finish runners-up in the tournament. Jay Pandya of Gujarat finished second runners-up with a score of 284.<\/p>\n
Aadil said, “It was great course layout and perfect for scoring. The greens were very fast and tricky. Karan is in great form and playing with him on the last day was great learning experience.”<\/p>\n
Both the players are being trained at Chandigarh Golf Association Golf Range, Chandigarh under NGAI Director Jesse Grewal. Karandeep Kochar is leading the IGU merit with 347 points where as Aadil has played six domestic tournaments this season with a win at Karnatka and podium finishes at Rajasthan, Haryana Junior and Eastern India last month. He has 316 points and is at third position in the IGU merit list with three tournaments still to go till December.<\/p>\n
Kartik Sharma of Kolkata is at second place with 324 points.<\/p>\n
Aadil added, “I am playing CG Open Professional Open Championship here at BPGC next week. This junior event was a good practice match before I tee off with the best professionals of the country, including Rashid Khan, Ajitesh Sandhu, Himmat Rai, Shubankar Sharma and Khalin Joshi.”<\/p>\n
