Nengneihat Kom (48kg) continued her winning spree as she plundered her way into the finals of the 8th Federation Cup Women\u2019s boxing Championship in Guwahati, Assam. The spunky 17-year-old, who trains with the legendary MC Mary Kom at her academy in Manipur emulated the aggressive style of her idol and coach Mary, as she devoured Mamta Devi of Haryana in completely lop sided contest. <\/p>\n<p>Nengneihat\u2019s superior footwork and agility was on show at the SAI Sports Complex in Platen Bazaar as she went on to secure a 21:10 victory on points. \u201cIt was another good win for me; I stuck to my style of boxing and kept adding points. She (Mamta) seemed to lose steam in the last two rounds, which also worked in my favour. I am confident and moving well in the ring. There is one more round to go and I hope I do well in that also\u201d, expressed Nengneihat after her bout.<\/p>\n<p>In the other half of the draw of the fly weight division, 19 year old Haryana state champion Neetu also steam rolled past her opposition en route to the final round of the championship. In the summit clash she will lock horns with Nengneihat on Sunday (19th Feb\u201912).\u00a0 Neetu, who was up against Sanasri Brahma of Mizoram, a bronze medallist at the 10th Senior National Boxing Championship, was leading throughout the eight minutes of play, never allowing the Mizo to settle down. A lacklustre Brahma could only attempt and get through the offensive onslaught without any injuries. In the end Neetu, the Inter-Zonal champion registered a 27:9 win on points.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>The semi-final bout in the light welter weight category witnessed the class act of current Youth World and National Champion, Minu Basumatary of Assam. Basumatary exhibited her mastery in the craft as she got rid of Sattivada Marthamma of Andhra Pradesh in a matter of seconds. A silver medallist at the 2010 senior nationals, Minu was leading 7-Nil in the first round, when the referee decided to stop the bout and hand her the victory. It was a decisive win for the 18 year old, who seems to be settling well in the senior tour. She will now take on defending champion Suman of the All India Police team in the final round of the championship. Suman, who defeated Ankita of Madhya Pradesh in her semi-finals, will certainly look to defend her title and win her third successive gold medal at the Fed Cup. While, the 24 year old will look to achieve this feat Basumatary will be aiming to bag her first gold medal on the senior circuit. All indications are for an exciting contest.<\/p>\n<p>In the feather weight division, 2011 Youth World Championship bronze medallist Pwilao Basumatary of Assam registered an easy win over Hemam Devi of Manipur to advance to the finals of the championship.\u00a0 Hemam a former youth national champion was no match to the 18 year old Basumatary.\u00a0 Pwilao\u2019s relentless combinations of left and right punches along with her sharp jabs resulted in the undoing of the Manipur boxer. She won 22:7 on points.
