New Delhi: British-import Rajiv Ouseph got the better of RMV Gurusaidutt to win the ‘trump’ match, which was the tie decider, and helped Delhi Acers beat Mumbai Rockets to win the Premier Badminton League title at the Siri Fort Sports Complex here on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Tommy Sugiarto, men’s doubles pair of Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong and Rajiv Ouseph won their respective matches as Delhi clinched the trophy and pocketed a winner’s cheque of Rs 3 crore. Mumbai settled for Rs. 2 crore out of the total prize fund of approximately Rs. 6.5 crore.<\/p>\n
Mumbai Rockets drew the first blood through their mixed doubles pair of Kamilla Juhl and Vladimir Ivanov who thrashed Gabrielle Adcock and Akshay Dewalkar 15-6, 15-12. <\/p>\n
However, Tommy Sugiarto brought Delhi back into contest as he beat Mumbai’s H S Prannoy 13-15, 15-9 15-9 to remain unbeaten in the tournament. In the men’s doubles match, Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong got the better of Ivanov and Mathais Boe 14-15 15-10 15-14to take a 2-1 lead after three matches. China’s Han Li then notched up a 12-15, 15-8, 15-8 win over PC Thulasi in their Trump match to make it 3-2 in Mumbai’s favour.<\/p>\n
In the deciding match, which was Delhi’s Trump match, grabbed two points with a 15-11, 15-6 win over Gurusaidutt in the last match of the day.<\/p>\n
