Mumbai: <\/strong>Gagan Ajit Singh, the ace Indian striker who has been out of action for quite some time now, will make a comeback to competitive hockey in World Series Hockey, as the former captain have been picked by Sher-e-Punjab for the $ 2 million event which starts from February 29.<\/p>\n

Gagan Ajit Singh said, \u201cI\u2019m glad to make a comeback through this prestigious league. I truly believe it will start a glorious new era for Indian hockey and I can\u2019t wait to get started for Sher-e-Punjab. It is a team with a great combination of speed and spirit and I\u2019m sure we\u2019ll play entertaining hockey which will make us championship contenders.\u201d<\/p>\n

The scheduled second round of the player draft for World Series Hockey was held today, with each team strengthening their squads from the pool of players. The first season of WSH starts on the 29th of February.<\/p>\n

In this draft, players from Australia, Argentina, Canada, Germany, Malaysia, South Africa & India were picked by the various franchises. <\/p>\n

Among the notable picks of the day, Canadian captain Ken Pereira was chosen by Pune Strykers while Australian Mark Harris and Indian Hamza Mujtaba got selected by Chennai Cheetahs. South African Olympian Clyde Abraham was picked by Mumbai Marines.<\/p>\n

Preeti Pariat Mehta, Event Director, WSH, said, \u201cAll the 8 franchises have teams to last an entire season with tough competition for spots in the starting XI. This will ensure that the quality of hockey in the first edition will remain top-notch from start to finish and is fantastic news for the league and our fans\u201d\u00a0 <\/p>\n

L T Nanwani, franchise owner of the Chennai Cheetahs, said, \u201cWe are extremely happy with our picks. Mark Harris, Davinderpal Singh, Jasbir Singh, Shivamani, B K Muthanna and Hamza Mujtaba are solid players who will add value at crucial stages of the tournament. With outstanding leadership at the top in the form of Jose Brasa & Brent Livermore, coupled with the addition of these players who will merge into a squad full of youth and experience, Chennai Cheetahs is well placed to make a serious challenge for the title\u201d<\/p>\n
