New Delhi: The Indian School and College Basketball League, National Finals being held at the Thyagraj Stadium in the city entered day three today. The Indian School and College Basketball League launched by the Basketball Federation of India and IMG is one of India\u2019s largest Grass Roots Sports Program. The Leagues are being held over 22 cities covering 700 colleges, 500 schools and 13000 sport enthusiasts and will now be an annual calendar event to develop a pipeline for basketball talent.<\/p>\n
In a men\u2019s college game Ramjas College, Delhi got the better of Loyola College, Hyderabad with a comprehensive 69-42 victory. Ramjas College dominated the first three quarters and secured a big lead at the end of the third quarter. Loyola College did try to make a comeback in the final quarter but it was too late for them.<\/p>\n
Bhavan\u2019s Prominent School of Indore beat St.Edmunds School, Jaipur 78-65 in tightly fought match in the boy\u2019s school section. Both the sides were locked at 49 a piece at the end of the third quarter, however the boys from Indore upped the ante in the final quarter to emerge victorious.<\/p>\n
Kolkata\u2019s St. Xaviers College defeated Loyola College, Hyderabad in 28-20 in a low scoring game. Kolkata girls had a four point lead entering the fourth quarter in which they sealed the game by winning the final quarter 8-4.<\/p>\n
Satyabama Engineering College, Chennai completed an emphatic win over St.Xaviers College, Kolkata in a college men\u2019s game. The Chennai boys dominated the game and won 67-32.<\/p>\n
In a girls school match Oakridge International School, Ludhiana routed La Martiniere School, Kolkata 79-26. Oakridge International School got off to a fine start and took a 28 points lead at the end of the first quarter and there was no looking back for the Ludhiana girls.<\/p>\n
Fr. Agnel School, Mumbai defeated La. Martiniere School, Kolkata 76-63 in a men\u2019s college game. Boys from Fr. Agnel had a good day and led from start. By the end of first half they led La. Martiniere 38-22. In the third quarter, Kolkata team tried to make a comeback but the gap was just too big and Mumbai team sealed the game with good aggressive basketball in the last quarter. Captain Tanman top scored for the victors with 34 points. The highlight of the match was the last second three pointer by the Mumbai team. The shot was taken from behind the half line and it went in, leading to loud cheers by the crowd.<\/p>\n
In another women\u2019s college match MOP Vashinav College, Chennai defeated Mumbai\u2019s RA Poddar College 61-49. The girls from Chennai managed to open up a 10 point lead at the end of the first quarter, which eventually helped them prevail over the girls from Mumbai.<\/p>\n
Girls from St. Joseph\u2019s College, Bengaluru picked up their first win of the tournament by defeating Ramjas College, New Delhi 36-23. Ramjas found it difficult to penetrate due to the length of Bengaluru\u2019s rim protectors. Aishwarya and Sharika, Bengaluru\u2019s post players, made merry on the inside on offense and ended up scoring 20 of the team\u2019s 36 points. Aiswarya top scored for St. Joseph with 12 points.<\/p>\n
Following the women\u2019s team victory earlier in the day, the men\u2019s team from Surana College made easy work of the team from Jhunjhunwala College, Mumbai. The Bengaluru men managed to score at will with an impressive 57% field goal percentage as compared to Mumbai\u2019s 27%. Five players from Surana College scored in double digits with Renukaradhya leading the way with a double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds. Jhunjhunwala were unable to create adequate space for their shots as Surana College managed to close-in and contest and alter a majority of the shots put up by the Mumbai team. Surana kept piling up the points and the game quickly turned into a blowout win with scoreline reading 75-34 in favour of Surana College.<\/p>\n
Bengaluru dominated in School girl\u2019s category as well and Mallaya Aditi Int. School defeated Bhavan\u2019s Vidya Mandir without too much trouble. After the first quarter the scoreline read 18-0 in favour of Bengaluru team. Bhavan\u2019s Vidya Mandir played better in the remaining match but Mallaya Aditi Int. School was definitely the better side. Kochi side relied heavily on Reeshma and despite her best efforts Bengaluru side came on top 52-23.<\/p>\n
The only loss for Bengaluru came in School boy\u2019s category when Bishop Cotton Boys School lost to defending champions Sr. Nav Bharti School, Ludhiana. Bengaluru side showed what they are capable of in terms of skill, but Ludhiana\u2019s incredible athleticism meant that the Bengaluru boys couldn\u2019t sustain their level of play from the first quarter. In the end they lost 97-50.<\/p>\n
