{"id":2069,"date":"2012-01-18T06:02:30","date_gmt":"2012-01-18T06:02:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/indiansportsnews.co.in\/?p=2069"},"modified":"2012-01-18T06:02:30","modified_gmt":"2012-01-18T06:02:30","slug":"ioa-blames-sports-ministry-for-pathetic-coditions-of-jawaharlal-nehru-stadium","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/indiansportsnews.co.in\/?p=2069","title":{"rendered":"IOA blames Sports Ministry for pathetic coditions of Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>New Delhi<\/strong>: Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has expressed its outrage over the pathetic conditions of the sprawling <a href=\"component\/search\/?searchword=Jawaharlal+Nehru+Sta&amp;ordering=&amp;searchphrase=all\" title=\"http:\/\/www.indiansportsnews.com\/component\/search\/?searchword=Jawaharlal+Nehru+Sta&amp;ordering=&amp;searchphrase=all\">Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium<\/a> and has blamed the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the sports ministry for not properly maintaining the expensive stadium.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe saw the pictures of the pitiable conditions of the stadium in the  press and later received several complaints by the sports fans and some  foreign spectators about the pitiable conditions of the stadium where  they had to clean the seats which were full of filth and dirt,\u201d said IOA  acting president Vijay Kumar Malhotra in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>He said the reason for this slightly delayed response was because  \u201cWe did not want rush to media but made our inquiries and found that  all the complaints were correct.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prof. Malhotra said though the match was played for a laudable purpose-farewell to <a href=\"component\/search\/?searchword=Bhaichung+Bhutia&amp;ordering=newest&amp;searchphrase=all&amp;limit=20\" title=\"http:\/\/www.indiansportsnews.com\/component\/search\/?searchword=Bhaichung+Bhutia&amp;ordering=newest&amp;searchphrase=all&amp;limit=20\">Bhaichung Bhutia<\/a> and collecting fund for Sikkim earthquake victims- the impression left  on the mind of the paying public and foreign guests after seeing the  conditions of the stadium is one of disgust.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInstead of seeing Incredible India, the foreigners witnessed the  worst\u201d, this was Sports Authority of India\u2019s (SAI) way of promoting  sports tourism. \u201cThe condition of other stadiums is also no better and  the way things are going they are going to become big junkyards\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prof. Malhotra reminded the Sports Minister and SAI\u00a0 officials  that in October last year he had warned that because of lack of proper  upkeep the\u00a0 Rs 1000- Crore Nehru stadium is turning out to be most  expensive junkyard in the world.<\/p>\n<p>He urged the sports ministry to put its own house in order and  strictly monitor the upkeep of these expensive stadia. \u201cOtherwise we may  hear more horror stories about these stadiums\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prof\u00a0 Malhotra also advised the sports minister to use his  energies in a constructive way \u201d Ajay Maken should try to\u00a0 get the rules  for the MPLAD scheme amended or revised to allow these funds also to be  used for promotion of sports at the grass root level, building of  sports infra structure , holding of\u00a0 state, national and International  competitions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce these rules are changed, the Minister should then convince  every member of Parliament (both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha) to  contribute at least ten percent of his \/her fund available to them under  MPLAD for sports related schemes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>By Indian Sports News Network<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><strong>New Delhi<\/strong>: Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has expressed its outrage over the pathetic conditions of the sprawling <a href=\"component\/search\/?searchword=Jawaharlal+Nehru+Sta&amp;ordering=&amp;searchphrase=all\" title=\"http:\/\/www.indiansportsnews.com\/component\/search\/?searchword=Jawaharlal+Nehru+Sta&amp;ordering=&amp;searchphrase=all\">Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium<\/a> and has blamed the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the sports ministry for not properly maintaining the expensive stadium.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"tdm_status":"","tdm_grid_status":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[50],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-2069","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","category-isn-front-stories"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.9 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>IOA blames Sports Ministry for pathetic coditions of Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium - IndianSportsNews.com - Latest Updated Sports News &amp;
