Manila: Rufino Bayron of the Philippines fired a sparkling 10-under-par 62 to hold a commanding five-shot lead over home favourite Angelo Que after the halfway stage of the ICTSI Orchard Golf Championship on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Bayron returned with two eagles and eight birdies against two bogeys for a 13-under-par 131 total. His effort of 62 matched the low round score on the Asian Development Tour (ADT) which was set by Rashid Ismail of Malaysia in 2012.<\/p>\n
Que, a three-time Asian Tour winner, fired a 69 on his home course while Clarke Lutton of Scotland and Masaru Takahashi was a further six shots back from the leader in tied third at the Orchard Golf and Country Club.<\/p>\n
The 32-year-old Bayron rode on a hot putter as he dominated the halfway stage of the ICTSI Orchard Golf Championship.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was a bit lucky today. My putter was hot and the putts seem to go in. Obviously I\u2019m really happy with this round because everything in my game worked. My tee shots, approach and short game were really good and I hope to continue my form,\u201d said Bayron.<\/p>\n
Que, a three-time Asian Tour winner, turned in 33 before trading two birdies against as many bogeys in his closing five holes to put himself in position to win his first title this year. He hopes that the extra hours put in with his coach Bong Lopez will pay off this week.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve been working a lot with my coach and I\u2019m putting better. I\u2019m just not getting the right lines or breaks. When the birdies came, it was all inside six feet except the 15 footer birdie I made on the eight hole,\u201d Que explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want to win one this year. My coach and I agreed that we have to work together more often. Every time he is around during tournaments, I seem to be in contention,\u201d added the Filipino.<\/p>\n
Lutton, ranked 60th on the ADT Order of Merit after playing in one event, fired five birdies on his homeward nine to recover from a slow start where he had one bogey and eight pars in his first nine holes.<\/p>\n
\u201cThings started to click after the turn. Everything seemed to happened nicely and there was no disaster. I just kept to my simple plan which was to keep to the fairways and the birdies came in abundance,\u201d smiled Lutton, who is playing in his third year on the ADT.<\/p>\n
The halfway cut was set at one-over-par 145 with a total of 56 players qualifying for the last two rounds.<\/p>\n
The ADT, which was launched in 2010 with five tournaments before growing to eight in 2011, 13 in 2012 and a record 16 in the 2013 season, has established itself as a gateway to the Asian Tour.<\/p>\n
