Dehradun: The First Uttarakhand Car Rally, beginning this weekend, is witnessing a major demand for participation. Even as entries have closed, youth across Uttarakhand and motorsport enthusiasts from other parts of the country are rushing in with entry forms to be part of the rally.<\/p>\n
The rally is being organized from December 21-24 by Uttarakhand Tourism, to promote the tourism hotspots in the state. It is being organized in collaboration with Himalayan Motorsport. This is the premier Shimla-based motorsport club which organizes the Raid De Himalaya. The Raid ranks among the top ten toughest motorsport rallies of the world.<\/p>\n
Mr Vijay Parmar, the President of Himalayan Motorsport, said that the demand among the youth of Uttarakhand and from motorsport lovers from other parts of the country is amazingly high. \u201cWe had fixed the total number of entries at the rally to 35 because of the limited daylight hours available. However, the demand is so high that even if we had kept the number of total entries at 70, all places would have been taken,\u201d he said.\n<\/p>\n
Mr Parmar said that in motorsport rallies, each competitor is given an individual time start. \u201cThe daylight hours available are from 7 am to about 5.30 pm. There was already a difference of about one hour between the first vehicle taking off from the starting point, and the last vehicle flagged off from there. It was not possible to taken in a higher number of entries in the event,\u201d said Mr Parmar.<\/p>\n
Dr UK Panwar, Secretary Tourism Uttarakhand, said that he was very happy to see the huge demand for the rally both within and outside the state. \u201cThe rally route touches some of the most beautiful tourism hotspots of Uttarakhand. These include Shivpuri, the most popular stretch for white water rafting; Auli, the skiing capital of the country, and Ramnagar, which is adjacent to the Jim Corbett Park. The rally will spread the message nationally and internationally that Uttarakhand has beautiful roads, and is the adventure tourism destination of the country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The motorsport lovers of Uttarakhand who want to join the rally are pinning their hopes that some team may drop out at the last moment. \u201cEven in case of a single drop out, there are 15-16 teams waiting to take the place,\u201d said Mr Parmar. \u201cThis shows the huge demand for motorsports in Uttarakhand, and the ardent desire among the youth for adventure and thrill,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The scrutiny for the Uttarakhand Adventure Car Rally will be held at Dehradun on December 21. The same day, the ceremonial flag-off of the rally will be organized in the afternoon.<\/p>\n
The rally will take off in the early hours of December 22 from Dehradun. The night halt for the first day is at the Auli Ski Resort. The second day, the rally will halt for the night at Garjiya, which is close to the Jim Corbett National Park.
