Chennai: <\/strong>Indian wild card Yuki Bhambri recorded a stunning 6-2 6-3 victory over seasoned Karol Beck of Slovak Republic in the first round of the Chennai Open <\/a>Tennis Tournament 2012 at the SDAT-Nungambakkam Tennis Stadium on Monday.<\/p>\n

Former junior world No. 1 Bhambri upset his opponent, ranked 244-places higher at 101, and 10 years his senior, in 80 minutes as the Centre Court crowd cheered vociferously for 19-year-old Bhambri, who won the junior Australian Open in 2009.<\/p>\n

Bhambri, who plays Serbian world No. 9 and top seed Janko Tipsarevic next, displayed excellent court coverage, charging to the net for crucial points, as he outpaced Beck to record his second win in only his fifth match on the ATP Tour.<\/p>\n

“I am the lower-ranked player in the tournament, I was under no pressure at all,” Bhambri said.<\/p>\n

Bhambri broke Beck in the fourth and sixth games to take a 5-1 lead in the opening set. Beck broke the Indian in the seventh game but Bhambri, who lost in the opening round in the previous edition, broke back, sealing the set on the fifth set point.<\/p>\n

“I got an early break in the first set, I kept pushing further. I’m glad I got another one.” Bhambri said. “The lead helped me go through in the end.”<\/p>\n

Bhambri<\/a> broke Beck, a replacement for injured Croatian Marin Cilic, in the second and sixth games to take a 5-1 lead in the second set before Beck broke back.<\/p>\n

Bhambri wasted two match points on Beck’s serve in the eighth game before clinching victory on his third match point in the ninth game and pumped his fist in joy.<\/p>\n

“I had a lot of chances, I’m glad I got the job done in the end,” he said before acknowledging the support provided by his sponsor, Club Mahindra, in his development.<\/p>\n

“They have been a big help, they came in at the right time and they are one of biggest sponsors who have supported me and we have had a good tie-up for a very long time now,” he said.<\/p>\n

“We need more corporates to come forward to support young tennis players,” he added.<\/p>\n

Speaking about his next round against the top seed, Yuki Bhambri <\/a>said: “He’s a great player, and I’ve got nothing to lose.”<\/p>\n
