Goa\/Kolkata\/Guwahati:<\/strong> Salgaocar maintained their unbeaten run over East Bengal at the Nehru Stadium, Fatorda and thrashed them 4-0 in a 12th round I-League football<\/a> <\/a>match on Thursday. Salgaocar, the defending champion who has maintained an unbeaten run over the giants East Bengal since 2001 received a major boost in the 16th minute of the match when Mehtab Hussian was sent off for a second bookable offence. Mehtab\u2019s sending made it quite clear that East Bengal\u2019s jinx would not be broken at least today and rightfully it did not.<\/p>\n

Goals from Francis Fernandes, Ryuji Sueoka, Elijah Junior and Nicolau Colaco helped Salgaocar score a much needed victory.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

East Bengal and Salgaocar <\/a>started evenly but Mehtab\u2019s sending off for successive fouls on Francis Fernandes and Ryuji changed the equation.\u00a0Once Mehtab was off and East Bengal reduced to 10-man, Salgaocar enjoyed the upperhand.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Salgaocar opened the account in the 25th minute after Francis Fernandes was at the right place at the right time to give finishing touches to a headed ball from Edeh Chidi. East Bengal defender Nirmal Chhetri tried to curtail Francis\u2019 attempt, but the ball deflected and beat goalkeeper Sandip Nandy under the East Bengal goal.\u00a0Salgaocar led 1-0 at the change of ends.<\/p>\n

In the second session, East Bengal coach Trevor Morgan made a double substitution at the start but Salgaocar, enjoying a player advantage, continued to hold sway.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Salgaocar calmed nerves in the 68th minute when Ryuji followed up on a long ball from Thounaojam D. Singh, ran some distance before getting the better of Nandy.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Substitute Junior Elijah then added his name to the scoresheet as he completed a move that was initiated by Marcus Mascarenhas five minutes from close.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Bad got worse for East Bengal in the last minute of play when Nicolau Colaco\u2019s ball was headed into his own goal by Nirmal Chhetri. <\/a>Salgaocar also finished with 10 players after Biswajit Saha was issued the marching orders.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Ryuji Sueoka was declared Man of the match.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

After this win Salgaocar SC leapfrogged to 8th position with 16 points from 12 matches. While Kingfisher East Bengal remains at 4th position with 23 points from 12 matches.<\/p>\n

Pailan Arrows hold Pune FC 1-1<\/strong><\/p>\n

Pailan Arrow played draw with Pune FC 1-1, in the Xll round of the I-League <\/a>match played at the Salt Lake Stadium, on Thursday. Jibon Singh scored in 16th minute for Pailan, while Keita Mandjou restored parity for Pune in 43rd minute.<\/p>\n

Pune FC are now at 5th position with 19 points from 12 matches. While Pailan Arrows remains at 13th position with 7 points from 12 matches.\u00a0Pailan Arrow’s goalie Naveen Kumar was awarded Man-of-the-Match award.<\/p>\n

Shillong Lajong beat Chirag United 1-0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Riding on a solitary goal by Christopher Shillong Lajong beat Chirag United Kerala 1-0, in the Xll round of the I League match played at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Guwahati, on Thursday. The only goal of the match was scored by Christopher.<\/p>\n
