Chennai: Punjab Police (Chandigarh) scripted a comprehensive 72-40 win over ICF in a men’s Pool \u2018A’ contest of the third annual all-India basketball tournament for the Jeppiaar Trophy at the JJ Indoor Stadium here on Monday.<\/p>\n
The result helped Punjab Police keep alive its chance of qualifying for the semifinals.<\/p>\n
After losing to Sathyabama University in its first match, Police desperately needed a victory and achieved it without much ado. Trailing 10-19 in the first quarter, ICF put up a modicum of fight in the second quarter by reducing the margin considerably.<\/p>\n
Even in the early part of the third quarter, ICF came up with a few good steals and defensive rebounds.<\/p>\n
Police, however, ran away with the match in the second half of the third quarter as well as the entire fourth quarter.<\/p>\n
Amrit Pal Singh (29 points) and Amjot Singh (12) were the main scorers for Police.<\/p>\n
Sathyabama, which has been the most impressive team so far, did its reputation no harm with an authoritative 78-45 win over Rail Coach Factory (Kapurtala), its third successive victory in Pool \u2018A’.<\/p>\n
