According to sources, Meiyappan will be subjected to more interrogation in the company of Bollywood actor Vindoo Dara Singh, who was arrested on last Tuesday. Vindoo is said to have placed bets on Meiyappan’s behalf in the on-going IPL.<\/p>\n
Earlier, Meiyappan was arrested by the Mumbai Police on Friday night after the Crime Branch interrogated him for over three hours for his alleged involvement in betting in the on-going IPL matches. Mumbai Police said that it had call details of four phones of Meiyappan that revealed his involvement in the IPL spot-fixing scandal.\n<\/p>\n
Meanwhile though Meiyappan’s arrest have led to the hue and cry for Srinivasan’s ouster, the BCCI chief has refused to step down, saying he has done no wrong.
\u201cI have done nothing wrong. Law will take its course. No one can force me to resign,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have no intention of resigning. I cannot be bulldozed or railroaded into resigning,\u201d Srinivasan said to waiting journalists at the Mumbai airport.<\/p>\n
He also claimed that he had no knowledge of his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan’s involvement in betting and said there would be no discrimination and action would be taken against him with the “same alacrity” with which steps were taken against players.<\/p>\n
“You can be sure BCCI will act with the same alacrity. As far as Mr Gurunath is concerned, whatever steps of action which have been taken in case of anybody else, same will apply to him. There will be no discrimination,” Srinivasan said.<\/p>\n
Srinivasan claimed ignorance when asked about Gurunath’s involvement in betting on IPL matches, and corroborated his stance by claiming that he hardly watches a game or goes to the ground. “I had no knowledge about Gurunath’s involvement. Everybody knows that I hardly watch a game, everyone knows that I do not go to CSK’s games.<\/p>\n
“The fact is that a probe will be carried out, whatever steps to be taken, will be taken objectively and fairly,” he told ‘NDTV’.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile according to reports, in a bid to counter president N Srinivasan’s rivals in the BCCI, Tamil Nadu Cricket Association has already started calling up office-bearers of other state units urging them to show solidarity in his hour of crisis.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
