New Delhi: One of the most destructive opening batsmen in cricketing history, Virender Sehwag is pumped up to come up with some sensational knocks over the period of two months during Indian Premier League starting from April 3. Though, he has been dropped from Indian squad because of his poor form, he is ready to lead Delhi Daredevils with his batting. Sehwag has been assigned a new role and that of being an architect of DD\u2019s innings and make sure that their batting revolves around him. He has stepped down from the captaincy so that he could concentrate more on his batting.<\/p>\n
In his interaction with media, during NDTV’s ‘Marks for Sports’ Campaign at the Modern School ground last evening, he was quoted saying that, “Captaincy has never forced me to change my attacking game, rather I enjoy the role of captaincy and make sure that team comes up with a match-winning performances. You need to have a clear mind-set when you are leading a side and you have to make sure that your role of individual player and of captain holds the equal importance.”<\/p>\n
Sehwag is known for his swashbuckling knocks but he will be in a new avtar where he will try to stay till the very end and ensure Daredevils end on a winning note. He went on to say, “Taking pressure is not my cup of tea and I am looking forward to play under the captaincy of Mahela Jaywardene who is a very strong character on the field. I hope he will enjoy the captaincy as much as I did.”<\/p>\n
“I scored five consecutive half centuries during the last edition of the IPL but I think there are many good players who are having an eye on that,” said Sehwag, adding that he was disappointed that Kevin Pietersen and Jessy Ryder would not be a part of our team.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey had been the core of the team as far as batting is concerned. Absence of big-match players will surely hurt our chances but we have to move on and look for what we have in squad. The players who are ready to replace them will have to rise to the occasion and make sure that they give their cent percent to the team.”<\/p>\n
Being the ‘fitness ambassador of Delhi, Sehwag lauded the initiative taken up by NDTV and Nirmal. “It has been a great honour to be associated with NDTVs Marks for Sports Campaign who is working on the grassroot level and spreading the message of fitness.
