{"id":11685,"date":"2012-11-17T04:46:22","date_gmt":"2012-11-17T04:46:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/indiansportsnews.co.in\/?p=11685"},"modified":"2012-11-17T04:46:22","modified_gmt":"2012-11-17T04:46:22","slug":"hong-kong-open-jyoti-makes-cut-mcilory-harrington-fall-short","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/indiansportsnews.co.in\/?p=11685","title":{"rendered":"Hong Kong Open: Jyoti makes cut, McIlory falls short"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin-right: 6px; margin-left: 6px; float: left;\" alt=\"jyoti-randhawa\" src=\"images\/golf\/jyoti-randhawa.jpg\" height=\"200\" width=\"200\" \/>Hong Kong:<\/strong> Jyoti Randhawa was the lone Indian to make the cut even as World No 1 Rory McIlroy and three-time Major champion Padraig Harrington fell by the wayside in the $2 million Hong Kong Open on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Randhawa, who had shot 68 in the first round, followed it up with a second round 70 and his total of two-under 138 at the par-70 Hong Kong Golf Club saw him placed tied 20th.\n<\/p>\n<p>Himmat Rai (68-75), Shiv Kapur (69-75), Gaganjeet Bhullar (71-76) and SSP Chowrasia (76-72) missed the cut, while Digvijay Singh and Chiragh Kumar withdrew after first round cards of 80 each.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile China\u2019s Zhang Lian-wei, a five-time Asian Tourwinner, remained on course for a unique Chinese treble after he carded a four-under-par 66 to stay one back of New Zealand\u2019s Michael Campbell.<br \/>&nbsp;<br \/>Campbell showed his Major credentials by signing for a 64 to take the second round lead on nine-under-par 131 while Spain\u2019s Miguel Angel Jimenez and Sweden\u2019s Fredrik Andersson Hed are tied for second with Zhang on 132.<br \/>&nbsp;<br \/>Denmark\u2019s Anders Hansen, who had taken the morning round lead earlier, was in fifth place after rounds of 69 and 64 while Asian Tour members Javi Colomo of Spain and Japan\u2019s Daisuke Kataoka shared sixth place on 135 at the Hong Kong Golf Club.<br \/>&nbsp;<br \/>Having gone without a win since lifting the US Open title in 2005, Campbell continued his golf revival by moving atop the leaderboard for a well-deserved lead.<br \/>&nbsp;<br \/>Campbell has climbed from 910th place on the official world golf ranking four months ago to 339th, thanks largely to his third place finish in Portugal last month.<br \/>&nbsp;<br \/>\u201cToday was a day where I played great from tee to green and holed a few nice putts for pars and birdies. But I&#8217;m just happy to be in a position to have a chance for the weekend.&nbsp; That&#8217;s why we play the game.&nbsp; That&#8217;s why I didn&#8217;t give up.&nbsp; That&#8217;s why I just stuck at working hard on my game, and I knew that this would happen.&nbsp; I deserve it, really,\u201d said Campbell.<br \/>&nbsp;<br \/>Zhang continued to delight the local galleries with another impressive performance as he bids for a unique treble having won the National Opens of China and Macau on the Asian Tour.<br \/>&nbsp;<br \/>\u201cAs a Chinese, winning the UBS HK Open will be a significant milestone for my career as that would mean capturing the three National Opens of each country. I want that,\u201d said Zhang.<br \/>&nbsp;<br \/>Remarkably, the 47-year-old veteran could have even snatched a share of the lead with Campbell at the last had his birdie putt not stopped inches away from the hole.<br \/>&nbsp;<br \/>\u201cIt was a heart-stopping moment for me too,\u201d laughed Zhang. \u201cBut overall, I\u2019m happy with the way I played. I\u2019ve been very consistent and the results are showing. I\u2019ve known Campbell for a long time and I look forward to playing together with him.\u201d<br \/>&nbsp;<br \/>With three top-10 finishes this season, Colomo is hoping that he can end his rookie year on the Asian Tour with a flourish.<br \/>&nbsp;<br \/>\u201cI played very solid from the tee again but unfortunately I didn&#8217;t have much luck on the greens. The strong winds also made it very difficult today.
