Kolkata:<\/strong> Former New Zealand skipper and India coach John Wright said that he would not endorse International Cricket Council\u2019s (ICC\u2019s) decision to go forward with the idea of hosting day and night Test matches and feels that it is aimed at the benefit of the television and not for the development of the game.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am a traditionalist and I like them to be played during the day. The idea might attract lot of crowd but then I do not like it,\u201d Wright said who was here at the city as brand ambassador of an Auckland-based Southern Institute of Technology.<\/p>\n

There has been a long debate going on as to whether should dish out rank turners against England in the upcoming series and Wright said that he would prefer a rather balanced pitch.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would not like pitch that will start turning from day 1. It would be fine to have a good batting strip initially and see turn coming in with the progresses of the match,\u201d Wright said.<\/p>\n

Talking about three different captains for different formats Wright said, \u201cDifferent players suit different format of play and that is good. But if the current captain is suitable for all formats, then I do feel any need for a having separate captains.\u201d<\/p>\n

Talking about whether India will be able to reclaim the number 1 Test spot, Wright said, \u201cYou have to stem the tide and regain the winning form. To be the No. 1 in the world you need to win Tests overseas,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
